Sixty percent of children do not have full-time parental supervision. As a
nation we are missing the opportunity to compensate for diminishing
families.
Only 8 percent of delinquency prevention and intervention resources are
focused toward girls even though they account for 26 percent of cases.
Today, about one-third of all school-age children, an estimated five
million between ages five to 13, are so-called latchkey children - kids who
care for themselves while parents are at work.
Since 1983, the number of homeless females has more than doubled.
Twenty-six percent of shelter youth and 32% of street youth reported that
they had attempted suicide at least once.
